Denver Begins Preventive Maintenance Work on Speer Boulevard Bridges
Published on March 16, 2023
DENVER — Denver’s Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) has scheduled preventive maintenance work on three bridges located along Speer Boulevard to ensure they provide a smooth, safe ride and effectively support the traveling public for years to come!
Starting in late March 2023 and through spring 2024, drivers should anticipate lane closures for the bridge improvements on Speer between I-25 and Wewatta Street. The work will alternate between northbound and southbound travel, with two of four travel lanes kept open.
Maintenance crews will start their work on the bridges over the South Platte River and Little Raven Street, addressing the northbound spans, then southbound spans. Then crews will move to the bridge over the railroad tracks and follow the same work sequence (northbound side first, then southbound). Work will be happening underneath the bridges and on the bridge decks, with the iconic arches over the Platte River and Little Raven Street receiving a fresh coat of paint.
Message boards will be in place to alert drivers. Sidewalk closures will route people to the other side of the street from where crews are working or to the Cherry Creek Trail. The public’s patience and cooperation are appreciated as this work is critical to keeping our city bridge infrastructure strong and resilient.
