20 MPH Local Speed Limit Reduction

The City and County of Denver has updated Denver's default speed limit from 25mph to 20mph. This change applies to Denver's local streets - primarily the roads with no stripes that go through residential blocks. Additionally, wherever speed limit signs are not posted, the default speed limit will be 20 mph, per city ordinance.

Lowering the speed limit on local streets is part of a broader effort Denver is taking to address safety on our streets citywide. In 2017, the City and County of Denver set an ambitious goal of zero traffic-related deaths and serious injuries by 2030. Since then, Denver made significant investments in infrastructure to make city streets safer for all - especially our most vulnerable road users. By reducing the speed limit on our local streets, we can draw attention to the topic of vehicle speeds and help create a culture of safety within our neighborhoods where we are more likely to see people walking and biking.

Broadway Corridor Study: Broadway between I-25 and Highlands Ranch Parkway

Broadway between I-25 and Highlands Ranch Parkway is a vibrant corridor where people live, work, eat and shop. This 11-mile stretch of Broadway provides local and regional connections through the City of County of Denver, Arapahoe County, cities of Englewood, Littleton and Centennial, and Douglas County. The City of Littleton partnered with these agencies to study the transportation and land use conditions along this section of Broadway.

The study examined existing conditions and future conditions for the different character areas along the corridor. The study concluded in Summer 2024.

Safe Routes to School Travel Plans: Mar Lee and Harvey Park Schools

In Fall 2022, Denver’s Department of Transportation began to engage with schools in the Mar Lee and Harvey Park neighborhoods to participate in a Travel Plan Study. Schools are selected by the SRTS Action Plan Prioritization and neighboring schools are then selected to maximize efficiencies.

DOTI's Safe Routes to School Program finished this work in the spring of 2024. The plan identified operational (traffic signal timing, roadway pavement markings, signs) changes that should be explored along with longer term infrastructure changes that DOTI is programming into the capital budget for engineering design and implementation.

If you would like a copy of the Travel Plan Study for the schools reviewed for this Travel Plan Study, please send an email to SRTS@denvergov.org.
