Evans Avenue serves as a critical east/west corridor through the Denver metropolitan area and is home to a diverse community of residents and businesses that are deeply invested in their neighborhoods. The corridor has historically experienced crashes impacting drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, and the City and County of Denver is working to improve safety. This project from Clay Street to Osage Street, enhances the community’s connectivity, accessibility, and safety for drivers, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
The Evans Avenue Vision Zero Project is a part of the Safer Main Streets (SMS) Initiative funded through federal grants administered by the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT). The project included the design and construction of safety improvements such as raised medians and pedestrian refuges. These improvements reduce speeds, shorten pedestrian crossings, add ADA compliant curb ramps, and eliminate some left-turn movements.
The project designed and constructed the following:
- Addition of 5 raised medians located between Clay Street and Bryant Street, Bryant Street and Zuni Street, Zuni Street and Vallejo Street, Vallejo Street and Tejon Street, and Pecos Street and Osage Street.
- Pedestrian Improvements at Bryant Street and Pecos Street
- Left-turn restrictions at Bryant Street and Pecos Street
