Diverse hands laying across a table together

The Mayor’s Office of Social Equity and Innovation (OSEI) was established to develop and implement the policies, programs, regulations, and initiatives of the City and County of Denver related to race, social equity, and social justice.

The Mayor’s Office of Social Equity and Innovation (OSEI) is horrified and saddened by the shooting that left five dead and so many injured at Club Q in Colorado Springs on Nov. 19, casting a dark shadow on Nov. 20 — Transgender Day of Remembrance. Venues like Club Q are a place to feel seen, welcome and safe for many in the LGBTQ+ community. It is a tragedy when senseless violence rips the safety of these spaces away from those seeking connection and acceptance. While OSEI is race forward, it is not race exclusive, and this is an equity issue that touches us deeply. We stand with Denver’s LGBTQ commission and the LGBTQ+ communities of Colorado. Our hearts are with the victims and their family and friends.
—Dr. Aisha Rousseau, Chief Equity Officer

We Lead With Equity

Denver believes that equity is when race and other social identities can no longer be used to predict life outcomes. Research tells us that when equity is the primary focus, with diversity and inclusion as supportive facets, all segments of communities are improved. This allows individuals who have often been institutionally marginalized and historically disadvantaged to be fully engaged and supported to achieve successful outcomes. Because of this, the OSEI emphasizes Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, EDI, as the order of our efforts, not DEI.
